FAQs

Rekortan

How long has Rekortan been used in track surfacing?

Rekortan has been on the track since 1969, including four Olympic Games, and has been the official surface of the Penn Relays since 1988 — one of the longest track records in the industry.

What's the difference between permeable and impermeable systems?

Permeable systems allow water to drain directly through the surface, which suits most outdoor Canadian climates well. Impermeable systems use a sealed top layer for a denser, faster surface — often preferred for higher-level competition venues. We'll help you choose the right system based on your climate, budget, and how the track will be used.

Is Rekortan certified for competitive events?

Yes — Rekortan systems are certified by World Athletics and have been installed at Diamond League events, World Championships, and Olympic venues.

How long does a Rekortan track last, and can it be resurfaced?

With proper maintenance, Rekortan tracks are built for years of heavy use. When the surface does start to wear, resurfacing is available rather than a full rebuild — it typically takes the track out of commission for under a week, versus 30+ days for a full asphalt replacement.

Does cold weather affect performance or installation?

Rekortan systems are engineered to hold up across a wide range of climates. For installation timing, we'll work with you on a schedule that accounts for our winters, same as we do with any of our surfacing products.

Do you install new tracks and resurface existing ones?

Yes — we handle both full new-build installations and resurfacing of existing tracks, whichever your facility needs.

Life Floor

What is Life Floor?

Life Floor is a 24” x 24” foam-rubber tile that is designed for floors with predominantly barefoot traffic, especially in aquatic environments.

Where is Life Floor used?

Life Floor is commonly used as a surfacing product for (but not limited to) pool decks, spray grounds, locker rooms, showers, zero-depth entries, and underwater applications.

What is Life Floor's warranty?

Life Floor depends on a few environmental factors that can be reviewed on our warranty page.

Is Life Floor slip-resistant?

Yes! In order to be certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 50:26, one of the six testing criteria was slip-resistance. All samples tested need to achieve a minimum P4 rating (a British Pendulum Number, BPM, or slip resistance value, SRV, of 40 or greater) when tested in accordance with AS 4586-2013. Life Floor is certified to this criteria by receiving a P5 rating.

How does Life Floor perform in extreme heat/freezing temperatures?

Life Floor has installations across North America and internationally that have withstood temperatures from -50°C to +50°C, performing well in all climates.

Will Life Floor tiles become hot?

The tiles can become warm in direct sunlight without water, comparable to concrete — we recommend lighter colors for these areas. In constantly wet areas, tiles stay relatively cool.

Can heavy objects damage Life Floor?

Heavy objects could leave a depression on the tiles' surface, which should rebound over time. Sharp-bottomed objects could puncture tiles.

Is Life Floor easily removed by children or other users?

No — the bond of Life Floor to concrete is extremely strong. A strong adult typically needs tools to remove a tile from its substrate.

Laykold

How much does a new tennis court cost?

Pricing varies by location, grade planning, layout, access, fencing, lighting and accessories. Most new court projects cost $100,000 or more as a starting point.

How much does it cost to resurface a court?

Resurfacing typically ranges from $15,000 to $40,000+ based on current court condition, number of courts, and longevity recommendations.

What is the Laykold acrylic system?

The Laykold acrylic surface coating system is the most durable acrylic paint coating on the market — the surfacing material used for the US Open and Australian Open. Our team installs fiberglass on every install to extend usable life.

What type of courts do you install?

Tennis, basketball, multisport, hockey, pickleball, volleyball and badminton — commercially and residentially, indoor and outdoor. For smaller residential applications, we recommend our SnapSports tile system.

Can existing courts be fixed?

Almost any court can be restored — from repainting to bring back vibrancy, to pouring a new asphalt or concrete pad for longevity.
